Indications and Dosage

Injection
Visceral spasms

Adult: 7.5 mg by IV/IM/SC.

Oral
Visceral spasms

Adult: 30 mg tid.

Contraindications

Glaucoma; dysuria due to prostatomegaly; severe cardiac disease; paralytic ileus.

Special Precautions

Prostatomegaly; hyperthyroidism; CHF; arrhythmias; idiopathic ulcerative colitis. Working in a hot environment. May impair ability to drive or operate machinery. May turn urine red. Pregnancy and lactation.

Adverse Reactions

Photophobia, visual control disturbance, headache, vertigo, heaviness of head, sleepiness, GI effects, palpitations, hypersensitivity, dysuria and flushing.

Drug Interactions

Action enhanced by concomitant use of TCAs, phenothiazines, MAOIs and antihistamines.

Lab Interference

Metabolites of timepidium may turn urine red and may interfere with certain urinary tests.

Action

Description: Timepidium bromide is a quaternary ammonium antimuscarinic used for the symptomatic treatment of visceral spasms.
